China bans electric shock (yes, electric shock) in treating Net addiction
by Dominic Rivera on July 14, 2009 | 1 Comment | News

China’s Health Ministry announced that it has banned the use of electric shock treatment to cure Internet addiction.

With having the most number of Internet population (about 300 million), the country also confronted with young people’s compulsive use of chat rooms, surfing, and online gaming.

The ban came after it was reported that 3,000 youths underwent electric shock at Linyi Mental Health Hospital. The hospital runs a web rehabilitation program for $1,025 per month.

This is how they defined Internet addiction: you spend at least six hours online per day with the yearning to go back online, fear of social contact, irritation, and difficulty in concentrating and sleeping.

Are they talking about me? I am never going to China.
